Raspberry Ridge Farm

Our Family Homestead Story

We have been inspired by the homestead movement for a long time. We were lucky enough to obtain a a three and a half acre property where we could begin our journey. Originally the land in the area was used as a cow farm, and now is developed. The property we have was overgrown with wild raspberries growing everywhere. We created the name of our property inspired by the wild landscape and the fact that we are on a ridge leading down to the sea.

A year after our purchase, and in the midst of a global pandemic we have found the time to get going on our projects to launch our homestead. It started with building an herb garden. Then we added ten young chickens and three baby ducks. We are building a critter resistant berry enclosure to cultivate blackberries, blueberries, raspberries and more.

The book “The New Homesteader” by Bella and Nick Ivins has helped us focus on plans and develop manageable projects to fulfill our goals, while also keeping in mind practicality and the beauty of a space as a whole since it is a home.

On rainy days to pass the time, my daughter and I created this blog to document our adventures on the homestead and share it with others. This is a work in progress as we are learning the tech of blogging, and also learning how to build a homestead…it’s a bumpy adventure, but it’s bringing us all together during a challenging and uncertain time in our lives.

Cheers from the family at Raspberry Ridge Farm
